About the DSDC Video Library: The Club is the lucky recipient of a number of videos and DVDs which have been donated by members. In order to share these freely while protecting the inventory, here are the procedures for reserving a tape/DVD:
If a dancer wishes to get a tape they would e-mail (preferred) Brian or phone him at (760) 328-7085 to reserve a tape. He will bring it to the next Sunday dance. Allow at least three days prior to the dance. You will receive an e-mail confirmation that the tape is available and that it will be at the dance.
There will be a $25 cash deposit on the tape. The tape is due back at the next Sunday dance (2 to 3 weeks). When you return the undamaged tape you will receive your deposit back. The tape can be renewed by e-mail or phone provided no other dancer is waiting for that video. If the video is not returned without being renewed there will be a charge of $5.
The library is available to all DSDC members in good standing.
Any DSDC member can become a charter member of the library by donating an original dance video that they own (we can't use copies). A charter member would not have to post the deposit. The video would still belong to its original owner and that person could decide to take their original tape back at any time.
As of this time the following people are charter members of the Dance Video Library:

Library Pick of the Month:
I had a wonderful opportunity to view an excellent WCS dance video recently.
Unfortunately it’s not in our library at this time, but it was so great I felt
compelled to write about it. It’s called "Connection & Technique for West
Coast Swing, Volume 1." It’s produced by a great dance
teacher from the L.A. area named Doug Silton.
Are you tired of purchasing dance videos and finding out that they are only 30
or 45 minutes long and contain a lot of filler? This one is 3 hours and 15
minutes in length. Admittedly some of it is interviews with the teachers that
were on the video, but that was in a separate chapter, not mixed in with the
instruction. I found it quite interesting to find out some personal info on
these well-known teachers who I have encountered over and over again at dance
conventions and on other videos. The name of this DVD pretty much tells you
why I love it so much. 15 Champion dance instructors got together to make this
video, each giving you the tips on technique and style that they felt were most
important. As with any subject there are always different points of view on how
something should be done. There were one or two of the teachers whose technique
I found to be at odds with other great teachers who I admire, but then it’s
important to understand all points of view and decide for yourself what really
works for YOU. This is one
in a series of 8 videos employing the same format of multiple big name
teachers. It’s practically like getting a private lesson only you can take the
lesson over and over again at no additional charge. I had the opportunity to
meet Doug Silton at Top Cat’s last weekend. I introduced myself and told him
what a pleasure it was to see a video that attempted to teach one to dance
rather than just learn more steps. Later that night, in a raffle to aid Katrina
victims, I won one of Doug’s DVDs from a different series. It was 25 variations
of the whip. This one will be in the library and I will be reviewing it next
month. In the mean time if you would like to see the list of teachers on the
video, more description of the content or check out the other videos in the
series, you just need to click on this link: Silton's Dance Video.
